Summer is heating up

Can you believe it’s June already?! We’re fast approaching the halfway point of 2022. That time of year that makes you stop and gasp, “Wasn’t it Christmas just yesterday?” As we prepare to say goodbye to May and welcome in June, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate the mid-year.

In June we welcome Summer and this means everyone is wanting to be outdoors doing their gardening, planting flowers, or simply sitting outside soaking in the sun. Taking care of your skin and protecting it from the sun is important at any age, but older adults are especially vulnerable to the sun’s strong ultraviolet rays. As we age, our skin can become thinner and more sensitive to sun exposure. Skin cancer is also a concern, with one in five Americans developing skin cancer by age 70, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

Fortunately, there are several steps you can take right now to shield yourself from skin damage and keep your skin healthy for the summer.

Follow these simple tips for a summer skincare regimen that’s right for you.

  • Be sure to stay hydrated.
  • Apply sunscreen often.
  • Stay in the shade as much as possible.
  • Moisturize every day.
  • Keep the bugs away.

Doing these five simple things will keep your skin looking healthy and free from any sunburns or skin infections helping you enjoy the best days of summer.
